C&W under fire over Cayman rates

The Cayman government is refusing to breach Cable & Wireless's 20-year exclusive service franchise, despite fears that business users could relocate to rival offshore finance centers if telecoms charges arenot reduced.

Since the Bermudan government ended C&W's monopoly there in January by allowing TeleBermuda International to compete, C&W Bermuda has cut its international rates by almost a third.
