Litigation Funding: An Analysis

(Press Releases) Permanent link

Over the last 18 months, OffshoreAlert has exposed two major litigation funding scams - Axiom Legal Financing Fund and Buttonwood Legal Capital - into which investors are believed to have invested more than $300 million. That doesn't mean litigation funding is an inherently poor investment, however.

Litigation Funding An Analysis

A behind-the scenes look at the litigation funding industry will form part of The 12th Annual OffshoreAlert Conference that will take place at The Ritz-Carlton, South Beach in Miami Beach, Florida on May 4-6, 2014.

In a session entitled 'Financing Asset Recovery Attempts', experts in the field will explain how they determine whether a third-party lawsuit is worth funding, how risk is assessed and managed, where and how money is spent, how recovered assets are split between investors, asset recovery professionals and victims, and how decisions are made about continuing funding a case or pulling the plug.

The session will be presented by three attorneys: Martin Kenney, of the British Virgin Islands, who is one of the world's best-known fraud and asset recovery specialists; Timothy Scrantom, who helped set up and manage two litigation funding companies, and Jonathan Cooperman, of Canada.

The OffshoreAlert Conference will show participants in international finance how to identify and exploit opportunities, avoid legal and risk pitfalls, and remedies that are available if your once-promising deal turns sour. Attendees will also make great contacts by mingling with the crème de la crème in the private and public sectors of numerous onshore and offshore jurisdictions.

Our Miami Beach event attracts attendees from more than 25 countries in different continents and is targeted at everyone who is involved in international finance – in any capacity. High Net Worth Individuals. Officers & Directors. Auditors. Bankers. Attorneys. Tax Advisers. Compliance Officers. Money Managers. Investors. Investigators. Regulators. Law Enforcement.
