Timothy Scrantom is an American lawyer and an English barrister. For thirty years he has been an entrepreneur in the law and finance markets.
Considered a “thought leader” in the commercial claim investment sector, in 2007 Mr. Scrantom conceived and launched Juridica Investments, the first commercial claim investment company of its kind investing in North America and the first to be listed on a western stock exchange. He was the President of its management company. In 2009, he launched the Law, Finance and Capital Markets Program at the RAND Corporation.
Prior to co-founding Juridica, Mr. Scrantom was a practicing lawyer and an English barrister (member of Gray’s Inn). He successfully settled high profile cases, including the business claims (Pan Am and London Insurance Markets) arising out of the bombing of Pan Am 103 by Libya.
He has published over forty articles and papers in the areas of international tax, finance, and fiscal planning, and has been a featured speaker at or chairman of scores of conferences for professionals and government leaders in over a dozen countries. He has appeared in international television and radio broadcasts (including ABC, CNN, BBC) and is frequently quoted or featured in international publications (Wall Street Journal; Reuters; Associated Press; The New York Times; Forbes; Fortune) in connection with litigation finance, international financial law matters and international disputes.
Tim received a juris doctor (cum laude) from the University of Georgia and an LL.M. in International Business Law from the London School of Economics. He has studied at various other foreign universities, including The Hague Academy of International Law (Netherlands) and the Free University (Brussels). In the United States, he is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia, Georgia and South Carolina. Tim is also a barrister before the courts of Eastern Caribbean States and the Caribbean Court of Justice. He did his pupilage at the English bar with the leading international law set at Three Raymond Buildings, Gray’s Inn. Tim’s thirty year career in law began in London in 1983 with Clifford-Turner (now Clifford Chance).
