Partner, Tax Investigations, Smith & Williamson (Manchester)
Currently a Partner at Smith & Williamson, Roy was previously at Deloitte for four years before which he had spent over 30 years in HMRC during which he was Group Leader of the successful Offshore Fraud Group.
As well as being HMRC's representative on the Seven Country Tax Haven Group for many years, Roy also sat on 2 Groups at the OECD and the main Board which introduced the UK's first tax amnesty, the Offshore Disclosure Facility. Having been a Competent' Authority for the exchange of information, Roy received awards from the Japanese Tax Office for his services to information exchange and was formally commended by other countries for his work in this field. He represented HMRC at meetings with the British Banking Association and whilst at Deloitte was an advisor to both the British Banking Association and the Building Societies Association.
Roy chaired the global tax authority group which was set up to handle the information received from the Liechtenstein informant which subsequently led to the introduction of the Liechtenstein Disclosure Facility.
Roy has expert knowledge on offshore issues and information powers and has many contacts in tax offices across the Globe.
On the personal side, Roy has been a Senior Scout with Liverpool Football Club for over 20 years and manages one of the Development Centres at the Liverpool F.C. Academy.
