Associate Professor, Copenhagen Business School (Denmark)
Brooke Harrington is Associate Professor in the Department of Business and Politics at the Copenhagen Business School. Her research examines the social underpinnings of global finance, including the uses of offshore strategies. Her forthcoming book from Harvard University Press, titled Capital without Borders: Wealth Managers and the One Percent, looks at an elite group of lawyers, accountants and bankers who help the world’s richest people hide their fortunes from tax authorities and regulators. Her previous books concerned investor behavior (Pop Finance: Investment Clubs and Stock Market Populism; Princeton 2008), and financial fraud (Deception: From Ancient Empires to Internet Dating; Stanford 2009). She is currently leading a four-year, multi-method research project on tax compliance; this is an international comparative study employing an innovative multi-method strategy comprising interviews, archival research and laboratory experiments. Her work has appeared in leading sociology and management journals such as the Socio-Economic Review, the Journal of Professions and Organizations, and Research in the Sociology of Organizations. She has received competitive grants and awards from a variety of international organizations, including the National Science Foundation, the Max Planck Society, the Academy of Management, and the American Sociological Association. She holds an MA and PhD in Sociology from Harvard University, and a BA in English Literature with highest honors from Stanford University.
