John D. Couriel is an experienced trial practitioner and counselor who focuses his practice on high-stakes cross-border litigation and investigations as well as high-value judgment enforcement matters, with a particular focus on Latin America.
Prior to joining Kobre & Kim, Mr. Couriel served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, where he prosecuted hundreds of federal crimes in the Office’s Appeals, Major Crimes, and Economic and Environmental Crimes Sections, and tried numerous cases to verdict. During his time in the Economic Crimes Section, Mr. Couriel was a member of the Office’s Health Care Fraud Task Force, where he led an inter-agency team of law enforcement professionals and prosecuted a variety of Medicare fraud offenses.
Prior to his time at the U.S. Attorney's Office, Mr. Couriel practiced with Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP, where he focused on cross-border internal investigations, white-collar and regulatory enforcement matters, as well as multijurisdictional complex commercial disputes.
After law school, Mr. Couriel clerked for the Honorable John D. Bates of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.
