Spain’s Costa del Fraud: Are the Crooks Untouchable?

    costa del sol fraud

After OffshoreAlert exposed the $40 million-plus investment fraud by Privilege Wealth in 2016, it became obvious to us that Spain’s Costa del Sol region was a hotbed of fraud by mainly British expatriates who seemed to operate with impunity.

That belief was reinforced when we discovered that neither Spain nor the United Kingdom prosecuted a single one of the 110 people arrested during the much-vaunted ‘Operation Rico‘ raid on boiler rooms in southern Spain in 2014 that was led by the City of London Police.

At next month’s OffshoreAlert Conference in London, Spanish lawyer Antonio Flores will explain how to go about recovering assets from the region’s investment fraudsters. In recent years, Flores has become their nemesis due to his legal successes.

The 7th Annual OffshoreAlert Conference Europe on financial intelligence and investigations will take place at the Grange St. Paul’s Hotel, in London, on November 12-13th, 2018.

‘Spain’s Costa del Fraud: Effective Strategies to Recover Assets’ is one of 17 sessions taking place at the 7th Anual OffshoreAlert Conference Europe on 12-13 November in London. The conference will cover a broad range of topics concerning high-value international finance that are aimed at investigators, providers, and buyers of products and services.

Spain’s Costa del Fraud: Effective Strategies to Recover Assets

The Costa del Sol region in southern Spain is notorious as a place where mainly British expatriates operate fraudulent schemes with relative impunity. These schemes are targeted at non-residents, including British pensioners, and take in tens of millions of dollars every year.

This session will look at the scale of the problem, the effectiveness of the local courts and laws, and, generally, effective strategies to help victims recover value.
